No Tobacco Day 2011 and Blood Donation Camp
PAHAL’ NGO organized a special programme to observe No Tobacco Day in IMI Bidhipur. In this programme a talkon ill effects of Tobacco use was delivered and Voluntary Blood Donation camp was organized. While briefing about Tombacco use Prof. Lakhbir Singh President ‘PAHAL’ told with the reference of WHO that there are almost 275 million tobacco users in India. Each year tobacco use kills about 1 million Indians. Bidi and cigarette smokers die 6 to 10 years earlier than their non smoking counterparts. .

The few years back it was estimated that the total cost of tobacco use was estimate 1.7 billion dollars without including premature mortality costs. Most of the tobacco users are anaemic and unable to donate blood. It is fortunate there were lesser tobacco users in Punjab as comparison to other states of India. But now due to migratory population from other states tobacco users are increasing year by year. MD IMI Mrs. Veena Jain and Director Mr. Manav Jain pined the donor badges to donors to inaugurate the camp.

All the voluntary blood donors were awarded certificates and mementoes along with the refreshment. Mrs. Gurbax Kaur Principal Ms. Manu Chawla and other staff members along with Mr Harkanwal Singh Nawla, Mr. Gurtej Singh, Mr. Khuswant Singh members PAHAL contributed to make programme success and about 200 NM/GNM trainees attended this programme
